Laptop Requirements
Students attending The Crown College of the Bible are required to have a laptop computer. The Crown College of the Bible strongly recommends that entering students comply with the general requirements below.
Operating System: The operating system should come pre-installed when you purchase a computer. When selecting a laptop computer, you should purchase one with Windows 7 (Professional or Premium version), Windows Vista (Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate versions only), Windows XP (Professional version only), or Windows 2000 Professional. If your computer currently has an operating system other than these, you will need to upgrade due to wireless networking restrictions. Any student with an Apple laptop will need to install Bootcamp or purchase a virtual machine software package such as Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualPC, to allow you to install your own copy of one of the Windows operating systems listed above. You can purchase an operating system upgrade from www.academicsuperstore.com at an educational discounted price.
Microsoft Office 2010 Professional: All majors now require taking a computer class, and you will need to have Microsoft Office 2010 Professional installed onto your machine to complete the requirements for that class. This includes any student with an Apple laptop. Other versions of Microsoft Office will not be accepted due to the fact that they do not include the MS Access and MS Publisher programs. If this required software did not come with your laptop, you may need to purchase it.
Security and Antivirus Software: Keeping your computer secure and free from viruses is vital! Computers that become infected with viruses are compromised and may be denied service by the college wireless network. While we do not require that you have a specific antivirus program, we do require that you at least have one.
Wireless Networking: Wireless networking is available in most instructional and on-campus public areas, and coverage will continue to be expanded. Students will often need to connect to this network to complete course work assignments. To connect you will need a wireless network interface card that complies with IEEE standard 802.11b/g. Your laptop may have this wireless capability built in, or you can purchase an 802.11b/g card separately to add it.
