Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I find out what housing options are available?
A: We maintain a list of available area housing that is constantly being updated. This list includes available homes and condos for sale as well homes and apartments listed for rent.
We can recommend realtors to you if you wish. Most area realtors and property owners have sold or rented their properties to our students in the past. They understand the special needs of men and women training for Christian service and are eager to work with you.
You may wish to visit Knoxville to look for housing. If so, call the Married and Commuter Student Ministries Office (extension 410) beforehand for assistance.
Q: What is the job market like in the greater Knoxville area?
A: Jobs are generally readily available, depending on the requirements and qualifications you may have. Because of the structure of the class schedule, you can begin work in the early afternoon. Students may work on Wednesday evenings if necessary, but they must attend Sunday services unless they are providentially hindered.
Q: When should we move to Knoxville?
A: Generally, we have discovered that a commuter student should move to Knoxville at least thirty days before the start of the semester. This will allow you and your family to get settled.
Q: How heavy a class load should I carry during my first semester?
A: Generally, you should carry no more than 12 credit hours during the first semester you attend. This lighter load will allow you and your family a period in which to adjust to the increased demands on your time.
Q: Am I required to attend Temple Baptist Church?
A: Commuter students relocating to Knoxville are required to attend the services of Temple Baptist Church. Although it is not required, you should become a member of this local church while you are training here.
Q: Can I serve in the ministries of the church?
A: As a member of the church you can. There are scores of ministries in which to you and your family can serve at Temple Baptist Church.
The Lord commands each believer to be a faithful witness of His salvation. Many opportunities are provided to obedient to His command. The Married and Commuter Student Ministries Office has more specific information.
Q: What Christian educational opportunities are available for my children?
A: Temple Baptist Academy (K4 through 12th grade), a ministry of Temple Baptist Church, is a premier Christian school. The academy includes an active home school division. Contact Mr. Dwayne Hickman at (865) 938-8182 to arrange a tour or visit www.templebaptistacademy.com for more information and resources.
Q: Are there any special educational opportunities available for my wife?
A: The Knoxville School of the Bible is a 2-year program leading to a non-credit diploma, and is free of charge to the wives of full-time students. This course of study is a wonderfully thorough preparation for any lady who will be serving in ministry with her husband. Child care is provided for this program, which meets on Monday evenings.
In addition, the spouses of full-time students may take one for-credit course per semester free. Certain fees may still apply.
The wives of college students meet on a monthly basis for Bible study, fellowship, encouragement, and prayer. Childcare is provided free-of-charge for this meeting.
Q: Is there really a place for us at The Crown College of the Bible and Temple Baptist Church?
A: Yes, there is! Although Temple is considered to be a large church, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. Our auditorium has twelve sections of seating. However, each section functions just like a smaller church would. You will make friends, fellowship, serve, and pray with the families around you. There are many other reasons you will find a home at Temple Baptist Church.
