Ladies' Volleyball

The 2009 Lady Crusaders completed their season with a record of 11-10. This year, they competed against teams in the NCCAA Divisions I and II, and the USCAA. The Crusaders were ranked 18th in national NCCAA DII standings, and 3rd in region standings. They made the top twenty in the division in attacking percentage and digging, and ranked second in the division for ace average. The team received several region awards this season. Erica Harshbarger (junior) was nominated to the First Team All-Region, and Brittany Inskeep (freshman) received honorable mention. Also, Beth Inskeep (senior) and Bethany Moeller (junior) received the Scholar-Athlete Award. The Lady Crusaders also are thankful that Erica Harsbarger was named an NCCAA II All-American for the 2009 season. We congratulate Erica on this tremendous achievement!

Several ladies distinguished themselves through excellent personal statistics. The Crusaders’ serving percentage was led by Erica Harshbarger, serving at 92%, and Beth Inskeep at 89.8%. Rachel Davis (junior) carried the team’s aces, averaging .8 per set with 52 total aces for the season. She ranked second in the division for aces. Beth and Brittany Inskeep and Nicole Paddock (sophomore) each averaged .6 aces per set. Brittany Inskeep led in attacking with 2.20 kills per set and 154 kills for the season. Erica Harshbarger averaged 1.88 kills per set and Bethany Moeller averaged 1.07 kills per set. Nicole Paddock, the team’s setter, served the team well with 5.7 assists per set with a total of 404 assists. Meagan Tonge (sophomore), the team’s libero, led in receiving and digging. She received the ball with 93.8% accuracy and averaged 3.8 digs per set.

Kourtney Lewis (sophomore) served as a great asset for the Lady Crusaders. She presented a fierce offensive threat with her strong hitting and blocking. Lydia Gish (freshman) came in strong during the region tournament, scoring 20 kills in three games.  Ashley Wagner (sophomore) stood ready each set to play back row for the Crusaders. She specialized in digging and receiving. Heather Brannon (freshman), the team’s backup setter, and Brittany Sykes (freshman) both gained confidence as the season progressed.

Together, the Lady Crusaders worked hard to practice and play to the best of their abilities. They give God the glory for everything He allowed them to accomplish during this season and look forward to what He will do in the future.
