in Music Ministry
The Psalmist wrote that the Lord has placed a new song in the heart of the believer. The Music Ministry program is designed to equip men and women who desire to serve Christ and extend a pastor's ministry in a local church through the ministry of music.
Students completing this program will serve as music directors, children's and youth choir directors, or accompanists. Thorough instruction in the Bible's treatment of music provides the only true foundation on which to build knowledge and skill in music. A minimum of 128 semester hours is required for the degree.
Key Courses
Living the Christian Life - The open secret of looking to Christ in the victorious Christian life is the cornerstone of this course personally taught by Dr. Sexton. The pursuit of Christ and the necessity of the personal devotional life are emphasized.
Theology of Christian Music - This course is designed to establish a Christ-honoring philosophy of music by studying the Scriptures. You will discover the scriptural role of music in true worship and learn to evaluate current musical trends and their origins in light of God's Word.
Choir Conducting - This course will build your skill in the vital aspects of conducting, such as technique, score reading and analysis, principles of interpretation, rehearsal techniques, and orchestration. The approach is intensely practical as the student will conduct a choral group on a weekly basis.
